Indianapolis IP Law

Indianapolis is the state capital of Indiana, and is located in the Midwest region of the United States. Indianapolis has many different manufacturing and service businesses in the area, but perhaps is best-known as the home of the “Indianapolis 500″ automotive race.

Approximately the northern half of Indiana, stretching from Indianapolis northward, is located in what is termed the “industrial belt” of the United States. The industrial belt is generally thought to include the automotive and steel industries. The industrial belt generally extends in a belt or band across the bottom of the Great Lakes, and stretches from Chicago in the west to Pittsburgh, PA in the east, with Detroit located at the western end of Lake Erie in between.  One of the major industries in the industrial belt has historically been the automotive industry. Modern automobiles are not simply a chassis which surrounds an engine and operator compartment, with the engine providing propulsion for the wheels. Rather, a multitude of different technologies are included in an automobile and may be the subject of various patents. For example, the engine is typically required to meet strict environmental regulations concerning omissions, and these different emissions reduction techniques can be the subject of patents. The tires can have a specific construction or can include different chemical compositions for improved traction, improved wear, etc. Various techniques can be used to switch a hybrid automobile from a conventional internal combustion (IC) engine to an electric source of power, as appropriate. The plastics or fiberglass which make up a large portion of the automobile can have a chemical composition which withstands sun damage, has higher impact resistance, etc. Robots which are used in the manufacture of the automobiles can employ a new end effector (e.g., suction cup, gripper, etc.) used to efficiently grasp and move parts of the automobile during the manufacturing process.

Taylor & Edelstein represents many different businesses which are part of the automotive industry, whether the products relate to new robot designs, new engine designs, airbag igniters, tire designs, etc.
